This CD features some of the finest, most musically proficient and diverse musicians anywhere. The music, composed by band members White and deOgburn, takes great advantage of these qualities. You can't really put a style title to the songs--"fusion," "funk," "jazz" alone doesn't describe what's happening. The songs are all of these styles and more. The music constantly challenges musical convention and simple expectations. The playing is virtuosic and there is some amazing soloing done by guitarist Mark White!

I teach at the Berklee College of Music and am a performing jazz pianist, therefore I normally avoid reviews (and reviewers) . In this case, I am willing to make an exception, since I find this group musical in the extreme. I have watched and listened to their evolution over the last few years and am very pleased that they are finally out there. There are few enough really good, high-level musicians working and recording today, so when I hear something worth listening to more than once, people should know about it and be able to buy this CD.  Word of mouth is just not enough anymore, so I sincerely suggest that you.......

Buy "Up with 'da Funk"5 of 5 starsit's definitely worth your investment.

Style: Contemporary Jazz

Musicians: Greg Badolato, tenor and soprano saxophones. Scott deOgburn, piano/synth. Charles "Dogg" Haynes, drums and percussion. Winston Maccow, 5/6 string basses. Mark White, guitars and guitar synth.

Review: Last Trip has created a lively collection on their new CD release titled UP WITH 'DA FUNK. There are 10 selections on this CD, including "Reggaesphere," "Ballbag," "Peruvian Princess," "Arabesque," among others.

These guys in the band are exceptionally good, and there is a strong sense of shared vision in their performances.  Special attention to Scott deOgburn's innovative piano stylings and Mark White on guitars.  Each member of Last Trip is a musician to the full, each performing some fine solo work.

"Peruvian Princess" and "Monica" are lively and should catch the ears of every jazz listener!

A fine outing is what you get with UP WITH 'DA FUNK.   5 of 5 stars

I love it..........5 of 5 stars

Lots of nice grooves. Use of electronics still sound "organic". It really sounds like you...the ideas I remember you had in your head during "Dream Girls".

Check out What the guys at Godin Guitars think:

Mark co-founded the group (Last Trip) with Scott deOgburn, Greg Badolato, and Winston Maccow. Mark writes 50% of the material, the other half is written by Scott deOgburn (the Keyboardist). The band has just released their debut CD on Grescotmar entitled “up with ‘da funk”.  We’re not in the CD reviewing business here but let’s sum it up this way…these guys can play! This is a great CD the compositions and the performances are of the caliber that encourages us to keep a firm grip on our day jobs. Check out www.lasttrip.com for more information on the CD. The CD is also a real showcase for the Godin LGX-SA, Mark got on to one of the first LGX’s and has been with us ever since.

Style: Contemporary Jazz

Musicians: Greg Badolato, Scott deOgburn, Jordan Perlson, Winston Maccow, Mark White

Review: Last Trip was a surprising delight. Their new CD titled “ Born Yesterday” was an enjoyable listening experience. The band is made up of Mark White, Scott deOgburn, Greg Badolato, Winston Maccow, and Jordan Perlson. The first track entitled “Ear Jordan” was a slamming, it reminded me of an old Audrey Hepburn movie; I was taken totally by surprised with the sound. The Drums and Percussions were in full effect so kudos to those guys. Track 3 was my favorite, entitled “Illuminations” is a soft jazzy tune, filled with the sound of the keyboards floating through the tenor sax, right on time. Track 6 entitled “Told You So” was a lively upbeat jazz track; it was cool like that.

There are 8 tracks on this CD all of which make up a very good CD. A night of cocktails, good friends good conversation and good jazz. What else would you need?

Tracks: Ear Jordan, Recipe for Disaster, Illuminations, Born Yesterday, Hillary, Told You So, Tribute, Sadam-ized

. Overall, Born Yesterday is a masterpiece and is a must for jazz enthusiasts.

While I have only listened to the demos of the cd from their site these guys are INCREDIBLY AMAZING! I have heard a lot of jazz music and this is by far some of the best fusion and urban funk out there. The guitarist plays a Godin LGX-SA, which is the same guitar I use, and it sounds amazing in this CD... of course it's the guitarist and not the guitar.
